BIODIVERSITY ASSESSMENTS: BIOFORTIFY METHODOLOGY
The Principles of BioFortify:
- Scientific
rigour. Detailed and full assessment of biological diversity with appreciation
of evolutionary and ecological relationships between organisms. Rather than
just counting species, BF properly uses (i) phylogenetics to consider
all taxonomic groups of organisms, and (ii) bioecology to consider
relevant interactions between them.
- Partnership.
BF is with stakeholders whatever their specific needs, offering an entirely
bespoke service across all its assessments. Every case will consist of a unique service, deliberately tailored around their requirements and the plans
for the site or sites in question.
- Biodiversity
and value. BF can both maintain or increase biodiversity of your site at
the same time as enhancing value.
BioFortify operates on a phylogenetic and heavily data-based set of procedures. The technical basis of the concepts behind the BF methodology is outlined in these papers:
An important component for BF assessment is cladogram construction - both case-specific and internal - i.e. on the latest and best current scientific understanding. The 2025 edition of the BF Grand Cladogram, covering 3200 taxa is the most recent version.
